What’s the coolest GLCC project you’ve been part of?
There were many cool projects that I worked on – any project that is unusual, challenging and requires problem solving skills is the coolest. The latest one that I worked on was designing a pedestal to display our wall mount enclosures at tradeshows. It took me a while to brainstorm and come up with 10 different concept designs. After marketing and engineering departments decided on the best design and provided some feedback, I made the requested changes and went ahead to work on the details to create manufacturable product (parts that could be physically manufactured).
How has your perspective on your work changed since you first started out?
My work is a constant learning curve. There’s always something new to learn.
When friends and family ask what you do all day, what do you tell them?
I tell them that I make a lot of digital 3D models and 2D drawings that turn into physical enclosures and racks.
How would you describe your approach to tackling challenges when it comes to the client?
I try to learn the history of how we solved similar issues before. Also, I learn the functions and features of existing product to give our customer the best solution possible.
GLCC is all about providing custom solutions for their clients – what’s the most out-there problem you had to solve and how?
The customer asked for a product that wasn’t typical for our manufacturing shop. I had to have many calls and visits with manufacturing staff to find the best solution that we could produce with equipment that we had. At that time, we had to contact the customer and provide alternative solutions. We worked it out and ended up with a happy customer.
What do you wish someone had told you when you were first starting out?
Don’t procrastinate! Do the hardest task first before you do anything else.
What aspect of GLCC’s approach to their work do you see really making a difference for clients?
Our company can quickly adapt to the new and ever-changing technology. If there’s no standard product that may cover a customer’s need, we can come up with a custom solution specifically for that problem.
Do you have a personal hero? Someone that really inspires you in your professional or personal life?
Ratatouille (the rat). He’s confident, risky, and creative.
How would you describe the company culture at GLCC?
Very friendly and warm. This is a professional business where you feel like you’re part of a family. This is the place where people also spend time together outside of regular work hours.
